Oeschinen Lake
I can’t describe how beautiful it is. Can’t believe this lake really exists. It is located in the Oeschinen valley, near a small village. The water of this lake is from the surrounding mountains that flow down, converge and penetrate through the rock layers until it becomes the lake we see. Apart from admiring the beauty, we can also go fishing which is a popular activity for the Swiss in summer. This place is even more charming from December to May. The water in the lake freezes into ice, so you can ice skate on it. Imagine ice skating on a real ice rink with spectacular views like this, it would be absolutely unforgettable. This lake is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Jungfrau
This is the highest peak of the Alps, with over 4,000 meters above sea level. It was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2007. Jungfrau is located near interlaken. You can go up to the highest peak by train, with 2 routes to choose from: Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald, which take you through the village, going up by an incredible elevation to Jungfraujoch station at 3,454 meters (Europe’s highest train station). During winter, the Ice palace and its magnificent snow-capped peaks are the highlights. If you visit during the spring, this place will be full of flowers blooming on the mountain, living and blooming like you are in a dream.
Rhine Falls
The majestic Rhine Fall is the largest waterfall in Europe, existing for over 17,000 years. It is located between Schaffhausen and Zurich. The crystal clear emerald water was formed from melting snow, with the background of the German castle ‘Schloss Worth’, making this waterfall become even more charming. For those who want to experience the freshness, clean air, seeing the water splashes on the rocks, or giving a little adventure feeling, you should take the boat to the middle of the waterfall. There will be a small island with stairs for anyone who would like to go up and see the great view of this waterfall.
Chillon Castle
It is a Gothic-style castle over 1,000 years old. It is located on the southeast coast of Montreux and is considered a symbol of the city. In the past, it was built to be used as a toll gate and the royal residence of the SAVOY dynasty. There are 3 towers in the front of the castle, and the lakes on the sides, giving the castle a beautiful view and full of history. So, this place had inspired many poets in the past. As for now, it is now known as a valuable gem of Montreux’s history. I would really recommend renting headphones for listening to history while walking around this place. You will be soaked up into the atmosphere and immerse yourself in the splendid beauty.
Interlaken
This is a city that you must visit for once. Its beauty is indescribable. The city that makes you feel fresh air, quietness, and impresses with the beautiful nature, abundant greenery and sided by 2 lakes; Lake Brienz and Lake Thun. Also, there are famous hotels for you to stay in and experience a slow life lifestyle of this place or even go for a walk at Hohemattle park where you can see the three sisters mountains; The Eiger, Monch, and Jungfraujoch mountains. You can travel both during summer and winter. The atmosphere is different but beautiful.
Glacier Express
For the last activity, if you have 1-2 days free, try a new experience. Take a ride on the romantic Glacier Express. This train will take you on a Switzerland tour from Zermatt to St. Moritz. The whole route takes around 8-9 hours which most people tend to choose to go on long rides in order to appreciate the beauty of nature continuously. Throughout this trip, you will pass more than 91 tunnels, including the magnificent Oberalp Gorge, river, glaciers, and numerous houses. This magnificent streetscape can’t be seen anywhere else, only on this train!
